From Earth to Earth, Complete the Cycle
Our composting philosophy was born out of respect for the land shared by most farmers in Maine. At Benson farm, what makes the land and the animals thrive is by taking good care of them both. As the cows eat from the land, they produce a natural fertilizer in their manure. We spread this would-be waste on the fields year after year to leave them thick and lush – providing a harvest that will keep the herd well-fed and healthy.
Composting is an organic cooking process where raw materials are broken down to produce a natural fertilizer that improves the structure and fertility of the soil and eliminates the need for foreign amendments. Our compost is a mixture of cow manure from the farm and shellfish from Maine's working waterfront. The high in nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus and ideal for planting and mulching.
A complete recycling process of organic materials is one where the finished product eventually returns to where it came from, to be an enduring natural benefit to our environment. From earth to earth, complete the cycle!
